What is the Bulky modular sofa system?
The Bulky is a modular sofa collection designed by Jacques Deneef for Ethnicraft. Its signature rounded, mono-volume silhouette creates a cloud-like appearance that is both sculptural and inviting. Each module — end seaters, 1-seaters, corner pieces, and footstools — connects with built-in clips to form a variety of configurations, all in Light Sepia linen-blend fabric.
How do the modules connect?
Each Bulky module includes built-in connector clips at the base. Simply push the modules together and the clips lock them in place — no tools required. The connection is secure enough for everyday use but allows you to rearrange or separate modules whenever you want to change your layout.
What is the difference between the 45° and 90° round corners?
The 45° Round Corner (40"W × 38"D) creates a gentle angled turn, ideal for open-plan spaces where you want a subtle directional change. The 90° Round Corner (53"W × 53"D) creates a full L-shaped turn with a wider, more generous seat at the bend. The 90° corner is used in our corner sectional configurations (Sets 6-8) and adds significant lounging room.
What's the difference between the rectangle and semi-circle footstool?
The rectangle footstool (31.5"W × 23.5"D) is a compact, traditional shape that tucks neatly against the sofa to create a chaise extension. The semi-circle footstool (37.5"W × 37.5"D) is larger and creates an organic, curved extension that echoes the Bulky's rounded design language. Both work as footrests, extra seating, or standalone accent pieces.
What does left-facing vs right-facing mean?
Orientation describes which side the chaise, footstool, or longer section extends when you're facing the sofa. Left-Facing means the extension is on your left, Right-Facing means it's on your right. Think about your room layout and which direction you want the sofa to extend. The 3-Seat Sofa (Set 1) is symmetric and doesn't require a configuration choice.
Which configuration is right for my space?
Small rooms (under 12'): The 2-Seat Sectional or 2-Seat Semi-Circle Sectional. Medium rooms (12-15'): The 3-Seat Sofa or Sectional with Chaise. Large rooms (15'+): The Round Corner Sectional or Corner Sofa configurations. Measure your space and compare to the assembled dimensions listed on each product page. Leave at least 18" of clearance on walking sides.
What are the shipping and delivery times?
In-stock Bulky sets typically ship within 1-2 weeks via freight delivery. All orders over $300 include free standard shipping. If a configuration is not currently in stock, lead times are approximately 12-16 weeks from Ethnicraft's workshop in Belgium. Contact us for current availability on your specific configuration.
Is assembly required?
Minimal assembly is required. Each module arrives fully upholstered and ready to use — you simply push the modules together and the built-in connector clips lock them in place. No tools are needed. The entire process takes about 5-10 minutes depending on the number of modules in your configuration.
