Ethnicraft Dining Chair Collections
Ethnicraft offers the widest selection with 34 designs across multiple lines. The Bok dining chair features a curved backrest in solid oak — our best seller for its combination of comfort and clean design. The PI chair has a geometric, angular profile. The Osso chair is compact with a sculptural backrest carved from a single piece of oak. The Teak Jack outdoor dining chair brings the same solid construction in weather-resistant teak. Most Ethnicraft chairs are available with or without fabric cushions or leather seats. Dovetail contributes rustic-industrial chairs with mixed wood and metal frames. Mercana offers upholstered dining chairs with velvet, linen, and leather options.
Dining Benches
Dining benches fit 2-3 people on one side of a table and create a more casual, space-efficient seating arrangement than individual chairs. Our Ethnicraft benches are built from the same solid oak and teak as their chairs — the Bok bench matches the Bok chair family for a coordinated look. Benches tuck further under the table than chairs, making them practical for smaller dining rooms. Mix a bench on one side with individual chairs on the other for a balanced, collected look.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many dining chairs do I need?
Allow 22-24 inches of table width per person. A 72-inch (6-foot) table seats 6 with chairs, or 8 if you add a bench on one side. A 96-inch (8-foot) table seats 8 with chairs. Round tables: a 48-inch round seats 4 comfortably, a 60-inch round seats 6. Leave at least 36 inches between the table edge and any wall or furniture for comfortable chair pullback.
Can I mix different dining chair styles at one table?
Yes — mixing is common and creates visual interest. The easiest approach: use matching chairs on the sides and a different style at the head (a host chair). Or use one style in one material on one side and a bench on the other. Keep the wood tone consistent across mixed chairs — matching your Ethnicraft oak table with Ethnicraft oak chairs in different designs (Bok sides, PI heads) works well. Avoid mixing more than 2-3 different styles at one table.
What is the difference between indoor and outdoor dining chairs?
Indoor chairs (Ethnicraft oak series: Bok, PI, Osso, N-series) use solid oak with a varnished finish designed for climate-controlled environments. Outdoor chairs (Ethnicraft Jack series) use solid teak, which is naturally weather-resistant. Indoor oak chairs should not be used outdoors — moisture and temperature changes will damage the wood and finish. Outdoor teak chairs can be used indoors without any issues.
Are Ethnicraft dining chairs comfortable for long meals?
Yes. Ethnicraft chairs are designed with ergonomic backrests — the Bok and Osso curves follow the natural spine shape. For added comfort on longer meals, add a seat cushion to any wood-seat chair (Ethnicraft sells optional cushions for most models, or use a universal tie-on pad). Upholstered options from Mercana and Dovetail provide built-in cushioning.
