Three Brands, One Lighting Group

Hudson Valley, Troy Lighting, and Mitzi are all part of the Hudson Valley Lighting Group, each with a distinct design direction. Hudson Valley Lighting is the core line with transitional and classic designs — aged brass frames, linen or glass shades, clean silhouettes suited for dining rooms and bedrooms. Troy Lighting leans bolder: forged iron, patina brass, industrial and rustic-modern designs with heavier visual weight. Mitzi focuses on modern, organic, and playful forms — ceramic accents, soft curves, and lighter profiles ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, and casual spaces.

Choosing the Right Finish

Aged brass is the most versatile finish — warm enough for traditional rooms, muted enough for modern spaces. Patina brass reads darker and more antique, best for rustic and vintage-inspired interiors. Polished nickel is bright and clean, suited for contemporary and transitional spaces. Old bronze and distressed bronze add depth to farmhouse and industrial rooms. French iron and textured black work in any space as a neutral anchor. When mixing finishes in the same room, stick to two metals maximum and keep the dominant one consistent across the largest fixtures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between aged brass and patina brass?

Aged brass has a warm golden tone with subtle darkening at edges and details — it reads as a slightly worn, lived-in brass. Patina brass is noticeably darker and more uneven, with visible oxidation marks that create a vintage, antique appearance. Aged brass works in both modern and traditional settings. Patina brass commits more strongly to a rustic or vintage aesthetic. Both are lacquered to prevent further tarnishing after manufacturing.

Can I use indoor light fixtures in a covered outdoor area?

Most Hudson Valley, Troy, and Mitzi fixtures are rated for dry locations (indoor use only). Some fixtures carry a damp rating, meaning they can be used in covered outdoor areas where they are protected from direct rain — check the UL rating on each product page. Fully exposed outdoor locations require wet-rated fixtures, which are a separate category. Bathrooms near showers also require damp-rated fixtures.

What type of bulbs do Hudson Valley fixtures use?

Most fixtures use standard E26 medium-base bulbs, which are widely available in LED, incandescent, and Edison-style filament options. Some smaller or specialty fixtures use E12 candelabra-base bulbs. Bulbs are not included with the fixture. For aged brass and warm metal finishes, use bulbs in the 2700K-3000K color temperature range to complement the warm tones. Higher color temperatures (4000K+) can make warm brass appear greenish.

How do I choose between a pendant and a chandelier?

Pendants hang from a single point and typically illuminate a focused area — ideal over kitchen islands (use 2-3 in a row), breakfast nooks, and reading areas. Chandeliers spread light from multiple arms and serve as a room centerpiece — suited for dining rooms, entryways, and living rooms. For a kitchen island, pendants give you more control over spacing and height. For a dining table, a single chandelier centered over the table creates a more cohesive focal point.
