Which Rug Pad Is Right for You?
Gripping Rug Pad (1/8") — Our most affordable option. This ultra-thin pad keeps rugs in place without adding bulk, making it ideal for under doors or anywhere a low profile matters. Made from recycled polyester and polypropylene, it works on every surface type.
Gripping 1/4" Grey — A step up in cushion while still maintaining a relatively low profile. Same durable recycled material as the 1/8" pad with twice the thickness. A solid all-around choice for living rooms and bedrooms on any floor type.
Gripping 3/8" Beige — The thickest option in our Cushion Grip line. Noticeably plush underfoot with the strongest cushion of the three Gripping pads. Works on hard floors and carpet alike, and a great pick if comfort is your top priority.
Premium Grip Rug Pad — Made from 100% rubber with a unique waffle texture that provides exceptional grip and allows air circulation for easy vacuuming. Thin and dense rather than plush — designed for maximum hold on hardwood, tile, and stone floors.
Dual Grip Felted Rug Pad — Our highest quality pad. Combining dense felt with a rubber grip layer, it delivers superior cushion, sound dampening, and thermal insulation. The premium choice for protecting fine rugs and hardwood floors.
Choosing by Floor Type
Hardwood, tile, or stone: Any of our five pads work well on hard surfaces. For pure grip, the Premium Grip's rubber construction holds firmly without leaving residue. For cushion plus grip, the Gripping pads or Dual Grip Felted are ideal.
Carpet or rug-on-rug: The three Gripping pads (1/8", 1/4", and 3/8") are specifically designed to work on carpet as well as hard floors. Their reversible construction grips both the rug above and the carpet below.
High-traffic areas: Choose a thicker pad (1/4" or 3/8") for hallways, living rooms, and entryways. The extra cushion absorbs impact and extends the life of both your rug and your floors.
Sizing Your Rug Pad
Your rug pad should be slightly smaller than your rug — about 1 to 2 inches narrower on each side. This keeps the pad hidden beneath the rug's edges while still providing full coverage. All of our pads can be trimmed to size with ordinary scissors for a perfect fit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I really need a rug pad?
Yes. A rug pad prevents slipping hazards, stops your rug from bunching and wrinkling, protects your floors from scratches, and significantly extends the life of your rug. It also adds comfort underfoot — even a thin pad makes a noticeable difference.
What's the difference between the Gripping pads and the Premium Grip?
The three Gripping pads are made from recycled polyester and polypropylene and come in three thicknesses (1/8", 1/4", 3/8") — they provide both cushion and grip. The Premium Grip is pure rubber with a waffle texture — it's thinner and focused on maximum grip and airflow rather than cushioning.
Which pad is best for hardwood floors?
All five options are safe for hardwood. The Premium Grip and Dual Grip Felted are particularly popular for hardwood because rubber won't leave marks or residue. The felt layer in the Dual Grip Felted adds extra floor protection.
Can I use these pads on carpet?
The three Gripping pads (1/8", 1/4", 3/8") are designed for all surfaces including carpet. The Premium Grip and Dual Grip Felted work best on hard floors.
Can I trim the pad to fit my rug?
Yes. All five pads can be easily cut with household scissors. Trim 1-2 inches smaller than your rug on each side for a clean, hidden fit.
