Beds

Explore platform beds and bed frames handcrafted from solid oak, teak, and walnut by Ethnicraft and Dovetail. Our collection features low-profile designs, integrated headboards, and king and queen sizing to anchor your bedroom with enduring style and structural integrity.

Platform Beds vs. Traditional Frames

Platform beds support your mattress directly with a solid or slatted base, eliminating the need for a box spring. They sit lower to the ground for a modern, minimalist look. Traditional frames require a box spring and sit higher, offering under-bed storage. Ethnicraft platform beds use closely spaced slats (3 inches apart or less) for excellent mattress ventilation and support.

Solid Wood Construction

Oak beds offer light, neutral tones with exceptional durability. Teak brings rich warmth with natural oils that resist moisture. Walnut provides deep brown tones prized for mid-century and contemporary decor. Look for center support beams on queen and larger sizes to prevent sagging.

King vs. Queen Sizing

Queen beds (60x80 inches) suit most couples and fit bedrooms 10x12 feet or larger. King beds (76x80 inches) provide 16 extra inches of width for co-sleepers or families. California King (72x84 inches) offers extra length. Ensure at least 24 inches of clearance on each side and at the foot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a box spring with a platform bed?

No. Platform beds with slats support your mattress directly. Adding a box spring raises the mattress too high. Most mattress warranties now accept platform beds with slats spaced 3 inches apart or closer.

What is the best wood for a bed frame?

Oak, teak, and walnut are exceptional. Oak is durable with light grain, teak resists moisture with natural oils, and walnut offers rich color. All three age beautifully and support heavy mattresses without warping.

How much clearance do I need around my bed?

Allow at least 24 inches on each side and at the foot. In smaller bedrooms, 18 inches works, but prioritize the side you exit most frequently.
